Luxury Collection gets US$200m revamp
BY Aoife Dowling

Starwood's Luxury Collection Hotels & Resorts has invested US$200m (£124m, 153m euro) to restore four hotels in Europe.

Two of the renovated hotels opened in Spain earlier this year - Hotel Alfonso XIII in Seville and Hotel Maria Cristina in San Sebastian.

These will be followed by the opening of the restored Gritti Palace in Venice, Italy (January 2013) and Prince de Galles in Paris, France (Q2 2013).

Located along the city's Grand Canal, The Gritti Palace will feature 61 guest rooms and 21 suites as well as Club del Doge restaurant and the restored Bar Longhi.

The hotel will also house an Acqua di Parma Blu Mediterraneo Spa; exact details will be released in the coming weeks.

The interior design was carried out by and Italian-American design firm Donghia.

Other facilities will include culinary school, The Gritti Epicurean School and the Explorer's Library.

The Luxury Collection will also launch the Prince de Galles in Paris, France in Q2 2013 following a two-year revamp.

Built in 1928 along Avenue George V, Prince de Galles will feature 159 guest rooms and 44 suites.

French designer Pierre-Yves Rochon is leading the interior design.

The hotel's mosaic courtyard will be fully restored as well as a new signature restaurant led by Chef Stéphanie Le Quellec.

The Hotel Alfonso XIII, in Seville, Spain reopened in March this year and features 151 guest rooms and suites.

Renovations at Hotel Alfonso XIII were led by Sevillian architect Demopolis, with interiors designed by The Gallery at HBA London.

Meanwhile, Hotel Maria Cristina in San Sebastian was launched in July and houses 107 renovated guest rooms and 29 suites.
